Time…

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven

How many times have I heard this passage over the years and wondered…?

I truly believe in the seasons of our life.  The scripture goes on to say:

a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
 a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
 a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
 a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to throw away;
 a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
 a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.   (Ecclesiastes 3:2-8)

Each time I embark on a trip it is a time for something, sometimes to plant, to weep, to laugh, to dance, to heal or to build up.  I think I have experienced all those things and more.  Between each trip the time is equally important, sometimes more so.

At the end of last year I spent a month in Cambodia and I would have to say it was one of my toughest trips to date.  It was both a time to keep and one which I would like to have thrown away.  However if I hadn’t encountered the challenges that I did I wouldn’t be at the place where I am now and recognizing that the dream I have to work with teachers in different places needs to take a different direction.  Since that trip it has been a time to reflect, a time of silence maybe.  My silence is not inactivity.  The silence on my part has been as I reflect on my experiences to date and wonder what I am able to offer in the future.

I do have another trip planned, it’s to India in July.  This time I will be travelling with other teachers, something I’ve not yet done.  All the details of this trip are not yet settled but that’s ok.  They will become clear as time moves on.  In the meantime I rest assured that for everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven and that when it is a time to speak I will once again share my story and the stories of those whom I am privileged to meet.
